Rikki-tikki-tavi” is a story written by Rudyard Kipling. It about a young mongoose whose name is Rikki-tikki, who is washed away from his mongoose family in a summer flood. Eventually he ends up at a bungalow in India, and is taken in by an english family. Throughout the story, Rikki-tikki proves that he is angry, curious, and fast.
Rikki-tikki shows great anger when he first meets Nag. “Rikki-tikki felt his eyes growing red and hot (when a mongoose's eyes grow red, he is angry)...” Rikki-tikki did not expect to have to deal with a cobra. But only seconds later he learns that there is yet a second cobra that he’ll have to deal with, (Nagaina). And so Rikki-tikki realizes that this is the start of the “great war” (16) in which he must fight in to protect his new family.

Then Rikki-tikki goes around exploring the bungalow after he is given breakfast the next morning, “There are more things to find out about in this house then all my family could find out… in all their lives.…” (17).
