Vincent Van Gogh was born in Brussels, Netherland in 1853 and died in 1890. Van Gogh was a frustrated painter who always tried to be accepted by society. Van Gogh was a Post-Impressionist artist who taught himself to paint. His style was characterized by bright colors and heavy brushstrokes, and he was also influenced by Japanese printmaking. One of the most famous paintings by Van Gogh is The Starry Night, which he painted during his treatment for mental illness in the asylum at Saint-Rémy. There is a belief that The Starry Night was inspired by the view from his bedroom window. The Starry Night represents two different worlds: one in the sky, which I see as a turbulent and brilliant world contrasted with the small and silent city below. Vincent Van Gogh is known as a Dutch artist from the Post-Impressionist period. Throughout his artistic life he painted several versions of The Starry Night at Saint-Rémy, France 1889, which is exhibited today at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Van Gogh made a horizontal work measuring 73.70 cm x 92.10 cm (28.75” x 36.5”) and painted with oil colors supported on canvas. For example, Van Gogh used stars that only appear during the night, he also used the shadow in the town to illustrate the night. The light in some of the houses shows that there is human activity in the painting. The Starry Night have a proportion of 75% of sky and 25 % cloud, in elevation have 10% in the mountains and 15% of land.
