Have you ever had that moment when you meet someone, and it's clear that the two of you, on some point belong together? As friends, or as lovers, or even as family. Throughout our lives, we meet people, out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, and they either help us to feel alive or stab us in the back. According to the stories "Roman Fever", by Edith Wharton and "The Lady with the Little Dog", by Anton Chekhov discusses the relationship between two old friends and two lovers. In Wharton's story, the relationship between friends gets shattered because of unspoken a truth. We all have friends we cherish the most. A friend is someone that supports us regardless of what decision you make. A best friend is the person we rely the most upon. She/he might be someone that we would share secrets, memories with. At some point, some people might not agree with the fact that there are good and bad friends. The person you called "best friend" lets her into your heart and stabs you in the back. A friend that you cherished the most turns out to be the backstabber. Similarly, in the story "Roman Fever", the author gives a great example of friendship. The story takes place in Rome and two friends Slade and Ansley starts talking about the past. Since the story was published in1934 the role that friends play in society hasn't changed a lot. There are still "fake friends" and "good friends". For example, at the beginning of the story author showed a good relationship between Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade. "It's a view we've both been familiar with for a good many years. When we first met here we were younger than our girls are now" (Wharton 1). Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley showed a close friendship, exposing their true feelings about each other and the hidden secrets of their past. But one moment can change it all.
