John Mackey has been the CEO for 32 years running, and has had the mindset that teams work best from the start. Team effort does not exist in only the lower-tier jobs, but is considered a ritual even up to his position as CEO. He is one of three CEO’s, and no decisions are made unless they have come to a complete consensus. This is a tremendous reason why he is so looked up to within the organization of Whole Foods. While Mackey states that change is inevitable, and it most cases a good thing, he stands by a quote by Plato no matter how big of a change: the good, the true, and the beautiful. In an interview, John Mackey makes a heroic statement that with change and improving the world, sticking to what you believe is true and right and good is key Perhaps this is what makes him an organization hero, and the business of Whole Foods so successful.
