History and Background of Worth:
The company Worth Inc. was started by George Sharp Lannom in 1912. This happened when he bought a tannery to make firm tanned leather for harnesses and horse collars in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Sadly as the automobile industry grew there was little need for his products so he switched to making leather covered baseballs and softballs under the Worth brand. He had another brand called Craig which was for making leather dress gloves.
Years later when George died, the company was split into two. Charles Parish took one half of the company while George’s son took the other half of the company. Lannom continued working with the Craig brand and Parish took over the Worth brand with which he built it to be the largest manufacturer of baseballs. He became known as the Baron of Baseballs.
In 1970, Parish’s son, john, convinced his father to extend the company’s operations in Caribbean to include the baseball bat business. John took over from his father and he made the company into one of the greatest baseball manufacturing companies in the world.
