What It Means To Be A Modern Person What it means to be a modern person can be different to many people and depending on where you live it could also be different. But to most people a modern person is someone who is involved with society and normally has a job and keeps up with the new trends that are going around. That is what it means to be a modern person. A modern person would be involved with society and go out and do stuff other people were doing. Just like in The Great Gatsby when Nick goes to these parties like everyone else does and he acts like a normal modern person. “ In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars” (Fitzgerald 39). In the book many people came to these parties because it was the thing to do and most young people were having fun and doing this and it was completely normal to do this. In the book Their Eyes Were Watching God , Janie would have been considered a normal and modern person of society. She had a job just like most everyone else did and even though she did not enjoy it at times having a job makes you a modern person. “ And every day had a store in it, except Sundays” (Hurston 48). This is saying that Janie worked everyday but not sundays which is a normal schedule for people to work.
