In the book, Soldier Boys, by Dean Hughes two boys who are on opposite sides of the war tell their struggles and stories of battle in the War and how their two different lives collide together. The author of the book, Dean Hughes, has spent 7 years doing research on World War II and finding information about the war. Dean Hughes has interviewed war veterans, studied newspapers that were written in the time of World War II, and read hundreds of books like, “The Burden of Hitler 's Legacy” by Alfons Hecks to help his understanding of this time period and events. The Pillars of National Honor Society have influenced my life even before I recognized what they were. For Scholarship, I have spent the past four years dedicating my attention to my studies. I’ve spent hours after school studying particular tests. Matter of fact, I spent my seventeenth birthday taking a mock exam for my Calculus test. I’ve always kept my goal of succeeding in mind and worked hard to make my family proud.
This project taught me multiple life lessons. These lessons included concepts such as communication skills, detailed planning, leadership, and vital importance of keeping a commitment. My Eagle Scout Project has given me experiences, and vital practice with skills that most seventeen-year old’s do not receive until later in life. The project has helped me grow and mature as a person. Working through this project has provided me with experiences with managerial responsibilities that I can use later in my life.
When I first hear about National Honor Society in the beginning of my middle school years I knew that it was something I not only wanted to be a part of but that I was meant to be a part of. Growing up much of my time was spent around adults causing me to mature quickly and realize things others my age did not. I have always been driven and independent and accept noting but the best from myself especially when it comes to academics. I maintained straight A's all throughout my education up until high school. Having a 6.4 GPA freshman year and a 6.1 GPA at the beginning of junior year as well as being number 141 of 713 in my class.
Upon becoming an Eagle Scout, I may plan to stay in Scouting by advancing as an Assistant
The coming of age is the process of growing up or entering adulthood, a stage of life that every living thing goes through from human to fish, although it comes at times that are unexpected and at any age, sometimes it might be fast or it could be a slow process. In the book TKM many characters go through the coming of age from old to young. This essay will be talking about Scout, Boo,and Jem and their journey through the coming of age. The sense I have decided upon is the scene where Scout and Jem are attacked In the forest, On the way home from a the school play. And how literary terms affect the thought of the scene First in the book TKM when Scout and Jem get attacked I believed this played a large role in Scouts coming of age.
Actually, I achieved Eagle scout and am very proud of that achievement. I would love to see all of our boys achieve that status as well. Scouting was an important role in my youth and I feel it truly shaped my character today.
I am extremely honored to be eligible for this opportunity to apply for the National Honor Society. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society has been a goal I set for myself since I was a student in middle school. I have been greatly looking forward to this moment for a very long time. Overall, I have worked incredibly hard these last two years to display a positive character and obtain qualities such as leadership, responsibility, and scholarship. I strongly believe I will be a productive and reliable member of the National Honor Society at Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School.
I’ve learned that being an eagle Scout isn’t just a title, but a way on how to live your life. Since 2008, when I joined Boy Scouts, I’ve made so many friends and memories that I will never forget. One of the memories is Philmont.
While many consider the 50-mile backpacking trek at the Boy Scout High Adventure Philmont Ranch 10,000 feet above sea level an already excruciating journey, my experience with the trek revealed the perfect metaphor: Life is just one big blister. Before this trip, I dedicated my life towards improving the mind rather than the body, embracing my talents in mathematics and science and envisioning myself as a teacher of academia rather than an athlete. With this background and as the youngest person in the expedition, my crewmembers often expressed their concerns: “Did you lace your boots properly? Do you have enough food? Are you warm enough?”
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.

Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I always had a dream of joining the military. Though it was a choice, I still did not have any inside information of what it would be like, and the requirements and specifics of the Army. It wasn't until 2005 when I decided to join the United States Army that all my concerns and questions were answered by a recruit; and I was guided through the whole process to enter and prep for the Army. If it was not for the confidences and motivation of my recruiter back in 2005, I might have not made my leap and probably would not be in this uniform today. Becoming a member of the United States Army recruiting team means having a physical and mental toughness in order to perform efficiently.
