Although Odysseus made some mistakes overall he was a great leader. Besides that he did have quite an adventure. Odysseus was a great leader when he showed bravery when saving his men from the cyclops, when he showed loyalty when saving his men from Circe, and also when he showed leadership when going to the Underworld. The first challenge Odysseus came across was Polyphemus, the cyclops.
A good leader would have taken his men’s concerns into consideration. Odysseus is quick to decide that they should stay even if it meant potential danger. His quick and impractical decision eventually led to death among his men. This shows that he prioritizes himself over his men and is clearly selfish, a quality good leaders should not have. Another part of the adventure where this is portrayed is when Odysseus and his men are on Circe’s island.
Although Odysseus in The Odyssey by Homer does not learn life lessons easily and constantly puts himself and others in danger, the challenges that come his way helps him
Odysseus is a bad leader since he is a murderer. When Odysseus and his men landed in Ismarus, “[He] stormed that place and killed the men who fought(Homer 28). Because of this, we can see Odysseus kills people for fun, which is a very bad quality. As well, Odysseus is greedy and does things even if they could put him and his men in danger. After successfully escaping, Odysseus taunts the Cyclops, “O Cyclops!
Odysseus is a good leader in that he uses his wits to get his men out of trouble. As Odysseus and his men prepare to face Kharybdis and Skylla, his men are nervous, so Odysseus reminds them “‘Have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome, is it now, than when the kyklopes penned us in his cave? What power we had! Did I not keep my
In Homer’s translation of The Odyssey, the epic sung many years ago, there is a struggle of warriors to return to their home land after the battle of Troy. They face many challenges and obstacles and generally rely on one person to lead them home, Odysseus. He is seen flawless by men and the smartest of them all. A leader must always carry qualities that make him such a person to be followed by many dozen men who enjoy his control. Although Odysseus was seen as a strong leader with no flaws, there were in fact many that have cost him many lives.
When Odysseus commands his men to go back to sea to voyage, he is a good leader because he is telling his men what to do. He is being a leader by protecting his men from the Ciccone 's army by leaving before reinforcements come. For example, when Odysseus and his men are heading to the sirens Odysseus states “you are to tie me up, tight as a splint” (Homer 1005). Odysseus is an admirable leader when he orders his men to tie him up and do not untie him because he is sacrificing himself for the good of his men. He is a leader when he does this because he lets his men not suffer the sirens while he has to.
For example, Odysseus gouges the Cyclops eye while the giant is asleep, even though the Cyclopes has murdered multiple of his men moments before. Odysseus displays his courage when he states,”So we seized our stake with its fiery tip and bored it round and round in the giant's eye” (B9 L.433-34). Odysseus throughout the novel stands up for himself and his crew for the right thing. He displays his leadership when he doesn't let others influence his opinions. Some people may think that Odysseus shows off his courage and wisdom to others
Because of this many of Odysseus’s men were killed by the enemy for revenge, proving that Odysseus is not a good leader, and it is not smart or good to do, and can cause Odysseus to gain more enemies. Another example of Odysseus’s poor leadership is when he and his men have just narrowly escaped the Cyclops cave. While safely sailing away from danger Odysseus yells “Hey, you, Cyclops! Idiot!/The crew trapped in your cave did not belong/ to some poor weakling. Well, you had it coming!”
When reading the odyssey I noticed that Odysseus went through a lot of difficult tasks and journeys and has had more than one near death experience. If you read through the book you will notice that most of Odysseus’ hardships go with a life lesson that teach you what to do or not do in the future in that type of situation. One of the life lessons is when a has to hang onto the tree branch for a whole day to survive because Charybdis swallowed his ship. The symbol or life lesson in this part is determination because he wants to get home to his wife and son alive and it is a hard task, but he was willing do it because he had so much determination to get home. If odysseus didn’t have determination at that time he could have just let go because it hurt or it was hard ,but he didn’t because the need to go to his wife and son was greater.
Why is it so dangerous to smoke during pregnancy? Smoking is considered to be the number one cause of adverse outcomes for babies as suggested by the experts. When a woman smokes during pregnancy, that toxic brew gets into their bloodstream, which is the baby 's only source of oxygen as well as nutrients.
Odysseus used bravery, cleverness, and determination to be a good leader and get his men through all these dangerous obstacles. Odysseus is a good leader as seen through his bravery, cleverness, and determination. Odysseus demonstrates good leadership through his use of bravery.
There are many lessons Odysseus and is men learn on their journey home in the Odyssey. Unfortunately, only Odysseus makes it home and the rest of men are dead because of their foolish actions. In the Thrinacia and The Cattle of the Sun episode of the Odyssey Odysseus’s men once again disobey him and cost them their lives. The men and Odysseus learn valuable lessons throughout their epic journey, but in the episode the most important lessons they learn are; temptation can lead to death, being obedient can save your life, and trust your instincts. If Odysseus’s men would have been more obedient to their leader Odysseus perhaps all of them would have made it back home alive.
Odysseus is an epic hero because of his bravery and confidence during every obstacle throughout his journey In Part 1 whie Odysseus is about to come across cyclops cave, he says “I brought along and victuals in a bag, for in my bones I knew some towering brute would be upon so soon- all outward power, a wild man, ignorant of civility. “ Odysseus is showing his bravery of not being petrified of what he might come across, like the cyclops. Odysseus has no intention of harming them, but he is not sure what their intention is. This example is important because not only does it show confidence in himself, he also shows confidence in his men. In Part 2 Odysseus also shows his confidence in his men in part 2 where Eurylochus says, “Are you flesh and blood, Odysseus, to endure more than a man can?
Odysseus displays a strong act of leadership by doing whatever it takes to get done. Whether it's fighting Sirens or a cyclops Odysseus does whatever he could to get his men past the obstacle. In the text it states “I carried wax along the line and laid it in their ears.” (Homer 12.
