Thesis: In “What Makes A War Hero”. Karl Marlantes portrays the influential truth of what makes one a war hero, while differentiating heroism and bravery, and explaining how heroism has come to be so loosely defined.
I. The characteristics that makes one a war hero is derived from ones self-sacrificing behavior that impacts others without a reward.
a) In the article “What Makes A War Hero” there are many examples of brave warriors yet there are very few heroes within those warriors. Outside of war, many people are also facing struggles such as bad home lives; like warriors they are strong and brave but it is the ones who break the cycle of struggle to save others from the same cycle that are the heroes.
b) This article portrays the controversy of our president Donald Trump’s comment on Senator John McCain not being a war hero because he was taken prisoner, but McCain being a War hero based on his actions while being

Heroism and bravery differentiate based upon bravery being an act for a self-serving reason and heroism being an act of going beyond a duty for the benefit of others.
a) The individuals depicted in this article all possess a certain level of bravery yet it’s the people who possess the bravery that changes the lives of others that have true heroism. Bravery can be found within anyone, in a small town we often see bravery by the men and women in our law enforcement that keep our community safe, though they possess bravery and do a dangerous job not all possess heroism they simply possess the bravery needed to fulfill their job.
b) Heroism is found in the bravest of individuals such as firefighters described in the article who risk their lives to save families trapped in a burning building though it could cost their own life and family. Heroism can also be found in the most unsuspected people such as Janitors that not only serve for others day in and day out but they also go beyond their job title to many acting as a friend, mentor, and
