In the essay #1 “What Makes Families Happy or Unhappy in America”, I’ve learnt something about how to write my first English essay with templates and formulas, such as “PIE”, which stands for point, information and explanation.
What I worked in Essay #1 is that regarding to notes and handout materials of reading and class notes, to write a good essay, students should have ideas on writing introduction as the first paragraph that hooks audience and provides a brief description of the essay. Summary template and the model of “They Say/I Say” are to help students accomplish persuasive papers, argumentative research papers and thesis statement. Sentences that do not support the topic sentence destroy the unity of a paragraph. To build effective paragraphs students must introduce and explain quotes to support main idea in each paragraph. I have written some unclear sentences that confuse readers and I didn’t introduce quotes to provide more information. In my paragraphs, I’ve also written down some unorganized explanations that destroy my paragraphs. Because English is not my first language, the worst mistake is that I made a lot problems on grammar and sentence structures, which is another reason that confuses reader. At last, I need to pay more attention on conclusion because I didn’t restate the thesis statement, which reminds readers the strength of main argument, and main problem is that I didn't conclude my essay and how my points and information explain “what makes families happy in
