Investigation? In the book the curious incident of the dog in the night-time, Christopher faces many obstacles to be able to continue his investigation. One of the major obstacles he must overcome, is not being able to fully communicate and understand others communication. Christopher doesn’t like to talk to strangers as he doesn’t understand them. For example, “if there is a new staff member at school I do not talk to them for weeks and weeks. I just watch them until I know they are safe.” (Haddon When Christopher doesn't talk to strangers, he isn’t able to learn more about Wellington's death and the person who killed him. Christopher’s father is trying to protect Christopher from himself and keep him out of trouble. When Christopher’s father is yelling at him to leave the investigation as it's just a dog, Christopher stops talking about it to not upset his father anymore. “I could tell he was angry because he was shouting and I didn’t want to make him angry so I didn’t say anything else until we got home”. (Haddon 21) Christopher has a good relationship with his father and doesn't want to not make him angry or upset with him. Another example when Christopher’s relationship is an obstacle in his investigation is when his father forces him to promise he will stop his investigation. “ ( Haddon 50) You have to say that you will never do something again and then you must never do it because that would make the promise a lie.” Christopher can’t tell lies so when his father made him promise he wouldn’t continue his investigation, he had to abide by it.
