Dennis Lynn Rader born March 9, 1945 is an American serial killer with 10 confirmed murders murdered of people Sedgwick County in and around Wichita, Kansas, between 1974 and 1991. He was known as the BTK killer, which stands for "bind, torture and kill" that describes his modus operandi. He sent letters describing the details of the killings to police and to local news outlets during the period of time in which the murders took place. After a long hiatus in the 1990s, he resumed sending letters in 2004, leading to his 2005 arrest and subsequent conviction.

The prosecutors would have also been able to link Dennis Rader's grammar and writing style comparison to match the various letters starting from the secret “witness program letter” found in the library linking him to the Otero family murder because others were trying to take credit for it.3 The next letter he wrote because he was angered by the lack of attention he had received titled “ How many do i have to kill, before i get my name in the paper or national attention” naming 7 victims at the time.3 A more recent letter from 2004 was the “Oh Death To Nancy poem” he wrote.3 All of his letters were typed. These letter these letters contain details from the from the crime scenes that only the killer would know and the fact he wrote about the trophies he kept. While describing killing of his victims as “putting them down” making it sound he was hunting an animal than ejuclate on them but not sexually assualt them. Dennis developed a pattern for choosing individuals to murder, by wandering the city till he seen a potential individual. He would stalk the individual to the point of knowing their daily life patterns and find the best opportunity to strike. He would stalk multiple potential victims at the same time in case the primary individual didn’t work out. Dennis had what he called a Hit Kit that was a brief case or bowling bag that contained i created items he would use during murders along with his Hit Clothes packed in that he would dispose of afterwards. When committing the murders Dennis would break into the house, cut the phone lines, and hide until his victim came home. He then come up with a story to calm the victim, usually pretending to an out of town rapist who need to work off some sexual frustration. Instead, of doing that he would strangle his victims to the point they’d lose consciousness and let them revive repeating this process over and over again till he became sexually aroused by their near death experiences.
