Many have said that they would want nonlethal torture to be used in such cases but “did not want torture to be officially recognized by our legal system.” Similar statements have posited that while “torture might be necessary in a given situation it could never be right.” This approach, that of keeping torture off-the-books, is in direct conflict with the necessity for accountability and transparency in a democracy. A democracy cannot work if the public is kept in the dark. The public must know what is going on in order to approve or disapprove.

Many people wanted a way to sail around to Asia and the Americas to find what’s out there. Columbus was one of the first to sail to the Americas and discover it. Once Columbus returned back from the New World many Spanish explorers and conquistadors were drawn to explore the Southern part of the World, which is known as Mexico today.
The United States expanded a lot after the civil war because of the second Industrial Revolution. The second Industrial Revolution brought economic prosperity and overseas expansion. During the beginning of the 20th century, the main topic discussed was foreign policy. There was a divide in the United States. Some people supported the overseas expansion and some people didn't like to get involved in foreign affairs.
Zinn focuses the written work on the unnecessary violence expressed by different conquistadors and the way that other sources portray the events in a less than factual way. The conquistadors were led by their desire for treasures and grew increasingly lazy and cruel as they stayed in the America’s. Their stay had affected the way that they think and do things everyday because they had the “indians” at their every beck and call. To achieve the submissive actions of the Natives the conquistadors has taken advantage of their hospitality by having them lead them to the gold and punished them to death. This cruelty is what lead to the mass genocide of a single community of people.
In the case that there is sufficient evidence of guilt as well as coconspirators, torture may be allowed but none that is inhumane. Document B: The Massachusetts Body of Liberties allows torture in the case that somebody is deemed guilty by clear evidence. In the Laws of Connecticut Colony, no torture is allowed whatsoever. Document C: Mather advises judges to continue the regular American method of obtaining confessions and to abstain from torture, for confusion is more likely to get a confession than torture. Document D: Henry warns that Congress will attempt to extort confession by practicing torture.
Franklin’s occupations included: corporate lawyer, politician, writer, and soldier. He served as a corporate lawyer from the time he graduated from college in 1903 to 1907. He started his career as a politician when he became a New York Senator in the 1910s. Franklin was also a writer for a very short period of his life. He wasn’t a literal soldier, but a soldier in the fact that he battled his way through his twelve years of presidency.
After the Civil War, the second Industrial Revolution swept the US and the country began to flourish. Baring the economic prosperity, many Americans grew the urge to expand overseas. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, foreign policy was the hot topic among citizens and government officials. There were two sides to the argument; some Americans pushed for the aggressive foreign policy while others favored for the US to keep their nose out of foreign affairs. Notable figures in government took bold stands for and against foreign affairs.
World Domination has been a common trait for Europeans in the 1500’s. Each countries’ ruler had a goal of ruling more land than their competition. This led to bloody wars and tense times between two neighboring countries. The Spanish rulers noticing that winning the land on their continent would be difficult decided to send explorer, Francisco Pizarro and crew across the Atlantic Ocean to the New World. When the Spanish reached, they had won the land by having better transportation, mechanical advances, and having the motivation and drive to rule and conquer in their blood.
The Spanish Inquisition affected thousands of hundreds of people. The problem to be addressed is was the Spanish Inquisition fair and just to the people of Spain? Some say that it’s not fair because the Muslims had religious tolerance when they ruled Spain. Others argue that it is fair because it prevents further conflict between the people of Spain. Ultimately, the Spanish Inquisition wasn’t fair to the Muslims and Jews because they were contributing members of society, they were told that they needed to either convert to Catholic, or be exiled, and they had to leave all their belongings behind if they left.
Throughout American history, many sources display the era of slavery, but little of them exhibit slavery as well as a book called, “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass.” This book represents an accurate first-hand account of slavery that allows historians to analyze the era of slavery today. According to this narrative, there were many dehumanizing aspects of slavery, which include physical torture and forcing inhumane lifestyle onto slaves. Many of these scenarios of torture were demonstrated in expansive, horrific detail throughout the narrative. Although slaves were immensely dehumanized, this historical piece humanizes Frederick Douglass along with African Americans as this narrative is a marvelous piece of literary art with many

This was the reasoning that justified their colonization of the New World. The Spanish travelled to the New World with the primary goal of “saving” the Indians. By converting them to Christianity the Indians could gain freedom, according to them.

America was able to achieve Cuba, Guam, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico as protectorates as an outcome of the Spanish-American War. Other nations were also occupied by America. America was able to do this through imperialism; when a nation expands its influence and power through economic, military, and diplomatic means.
