Love’s country stores and Travel Stops. Tom love’s open his first gas station in western Oklahoma in 1964. Founded in Tulsa before Statehood in 1901 Hale Halsell distributed food and supplies to the settlers in Indian Territory. They have grown since then opening their first Git n Go stores in the 1980’s. They have about 115 stores in Missouri and Oklahoma which 30 are in Tulsa. In 1998 they started closing some of their stores claiming it was because of market conditions, soon after that in 2004 Hale Halsell stated it will be laying 200 workers off from its Tulsa warehouse and closing 20 to 30 Git n Go stores in Oklahoma and Missouri. They later stated that they had lost a key customer that accounted for 40% of their grocery sales causing them to reduce cost and consolidate their operations and sell non core assets. Managing sustainability plays a part here, if they would have adjusted to global economic, and environmental changes they could have fixed their social challenges and not depending on one customer for their sales.
