Buetow “tries to emulate”(41) Duncan following the ways Duncan lives his life. The play Dog Act is an unconventional play written in a post-apocalyptic setting during which the main characters Zetta and Dog are on an adventure to see "China," a famous region in the world at the time of the play. Liz Duffy Adams, the playwright, wrote the play and relayed her blueprints, the script, to directors Mandy Fox and Joe Kopyt, who worked with designers to create and present a world of their own imagination based on Adams ' script. The unique interpretation included eccentric costumes for each character, bold yet subtle implications toward sexuality and gender, as well the moving storylines executed well by the actors. The costumes a character wears are often indicative of their personality, class, and their overall characterization.

In Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue by Quiara Alegria Hudes, Ginny, mother to Elliot, suffers from PTSD, and maintains a garden as a means of possessing a sense of stability. In 4/Prelude, she recalls her purpose for bringing the garden to life, and the memories it brings back when she spends time there. Through elements of style such as diction, figurative language, and imagery, Hudes establishes Ginny’s garden as a symbol of healing. Charles Baxter’s book “There’s Something I Want You to Do” is composed of ten chapter, each focussing on one of the seven deadly sins and their vices. The chapter that stood out the most to me (and what this essay will focus on) was the first chapter, titled Bravery. Besides the fact it’s main character is a doctor which is what I’m going to school for, the emotions described in this chapter were very genuine. But, before getting into the specific contents of the chapter, the idea behind the seven deadly sins must first be understood.
Sledge lived and witnessed horrifying experiences at the beach of Pelilieu that were told in his story With the Old Breed. Although, to us, the beach is a calm getaway, Pelilieu is the furthest thing from calm. The story really shows the loss of hope from Sledge and the overall struggle against the Japanese troops. When Sledge first describes the battle, he gives off a hell type vibe filled with fatalities for every second he fought through in the Pacific with the other marines. Bombs were going off everywhere causing bodies to fly everywhere.
The book, Percy Jackson: The Battle Of The Labyrinth, by Rick Riordan is an amazing book about a group of demigods (half human half god) that have to save their camp from being destroyed by the evil forces of Kronos. Kronos is a titan that the gods banished to the deepest part of the underworld (Tartarus) after a war against them. Now that the titans are rising once again, the protagonists must travel through an ancient Labyrinth to stop them from demolishing their camp and temporarily halt them from achieving their goal of destroying Mount Olympus and the gods. This literary analysis will show the interesting relationships between some of the characters, and how the setting that they were in affected them throughout their journey.
Today, money has made many people believe that you need to have a lot of money to live a great, happy life. People in the world, especially the people who don’t have as much money as the ones that do, look up to people like popular idols, because they have money. People think they have a great living life with all the money they have earned during their lives. In the short story “Why You Reckon?” by Langston Hughes, the author uses diction, colloquialism and dialect to express the fact that just because people have the money to go out to eat somewhere expensive or buy the newest clothes, does not mean that a person is happy all the time and expresses how people in the town talks. one of the many times he uses imagery throughout this story is when the narrator says, “on his way he would see the cottages and homes with their dark windows, and it was not unequal to walking through a graveyard where only the faintest glimmers of firefly light appeared in flickers behind the windows” (Pg 1). By using imagery to compare walking through the neighborhood as walking through a graveyard shows that it is completely silent and there is no activity in any of the houses. Most people wouldn't describe their neighborhood as a graveyard, this also develops the mood. Another time he uses imagery is when the narrator says, “The street was silent and long and empty, with only his shadow moving like the shadow of a hawk in mid-country” (1). This shows mood because the narrator describes him as a hawk in mid-country, that means that he is all alone in what he feels to be like a barren or abandoned place.
Though Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories like, The Cask of Amontillado, to his poems like, The Raven, Poe’s shows his writing style to use physical imagery and connotative syntax to show ,imagery in his writing. Throughout his life, Poe had always lived through the most chaotic and evil of time. His parents died while he was 3 years old. After his parents died, he lived with another family member who never accepted him as their own son. Later on in life, Poe had served in the military and at that point he started writing poems.
Alice Walker uses imagery and diction throughout her short story to tell the reader the meaning of “The Flowers”. The meaning of innocence lost and people growing up being changed by the harshness of reality. The author is able to use the imagery to show the difference between innocence and the loss of it. The setting is also used to show this as well.
