Annie Easley was one of the first African Americans to work as a computer and rocket scientist,as well as a mathematician for NASA since she was 22 years old. One of Miss Easley’s main achievements is that she was a leading partner in the research team that created the Centaur rocket family. Her job with the Centaur rocket was to lay the foundation for the space shuttle launch. It made a huge impact on the project. Annie Easley is also recognized for the development of computer codes, including the battery technology that was used in early hybrid vehicles. Miss Easley not only did that, but also analysed many formulas and operations by hand. Annie’s early work included running simulations for the Plum Brook Reactor Facility, which later became NASA’s number 1 facility for them to study nuclear energy development and research. During that time, when Annie first joined NASA, she was one of the four African Americans working at NASA. Not to mention, Easley was one of the few women there as well. Later in life when computers got more modern and replaced human machines, she became an excellent computer programmer. Annie used the formula translation system and the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) to help support many NASA projects and programs.
