Haydn was apprenticed to Frankh to train as a musician. When he was 6 Haydn moved in with Frankh in Hainburg. Haydn was always hungry and had filthy clothes. He learned to play the harpsichord and violin while he was living with Frankh. He also sang in the church choir. He auditioned with Reutter and after some training he moved to Vienna in 1740. He worked there for nine years as a chorister. He lived in Kapellhaus next to the cathedral with other choirboys. His brother also lived there in 1745. They were taught school subjects and how to play instruments. Reutter only gave him two lessons. Since he was in St. Stephen's Europe he learned lots by just being there. From 1754 to 1756 he also worked freelance in Vienna. He was paid for playing at balls given for the children. Haydn got his aristocratic patronage which he needed to become a composer. Then Countess Thun made him her singing and piano teacher. In 1756, Haydn got a job from Baron Karl Josef Fürnberg at his country house where he wrote his first string quartets. Fürnberg later suggested Haydn to Count Morzin who then became his employer. He was Count Morzins music director. He led the small orchestra and wrote symphonies. In 1760 he married Maria Anna Theresia Keller who was his lover's sister. Haydn had an unhappy marriage. They had no children, and cheated on each other. He was fired because Morzin lost his money and couldn't pay him anymore. He was then offered a similar job by Prince Paul Anton. Haydn was only vice­director there, but he was in charge of most of the musical section. When Werner died in 1766, Haydn was promoted to full director. Haydn then got sick making it harder for him to compose. At the end of 1803, Haydn's got worse to the point where he physically couldn't compose. No one diagnosed him because the disease wasn't known at the time. On May 26 Haydn played his "Emperor's Hymn" then he collapsed and died. He died at 12:40 a.m. on May 31, 1809 when he was 77 years
