After reading this article, the Los Angeles Rams helped reintegrate the NFL in 1946 when they signed Kenny Washington and Woody Strode, the first African American players in the league in over a decade. This came about due to a request at a Coliseum Commission meeting by Black newspaper editors. While Washington and Strode did not become stars in the NFL, their signings broke the league’s color barrier and paved the way for further integration. Over subsequent years, more teams signed Black players as the league integrated. By the early 1950s, all but one team was integrated, though the final team held out due to its owner’s refusal until forced to sign a player in 1962.
The football that we know today started in 1922 when the American Professional Football Association change its name to the National Football League. The team with the best regular season record was the champion. in 1960 a second national football league was started to compete with the NFL. Eventually it ended up the being two conferences to make up the NFL, the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. The two implemented a system of playoff games and the champions of the two conferences went head to head in a game called the Superbowl.
During the 1900s, people of color were not able to play in the MLB with white people due to segregation. With the making of their own league, known as the Negro Leagues, people of color were able to play the game they love as well as now turning the face of baseball with allowing anybody of a different race into the MLB. With a couple of players going into the MLB, during this time despite the conflict, which had made an impact as they progressed of allowing people of color into the Major Leagues and into sports today. Segregation during this time prevented people of color to play with other races as the diversity of conflict to be able to play their sport as well as the people of color, mainly African-Americans, came to a compromise where
Generally people think that the NFL should adjust the game, and its rules to increase player safety, statistics clearly show that too much adjusting has been done and the NFL is suffering because of it. Too many rules have been changed for player safety and the current changes being discussed, like getting rid of the kickoff, are going to far and the game is not like it was. Players sign contracts and are aware of the risks they put themselves at when playing the game of football at a professional level. Referees are throwing more flags and the NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, is handing out a record high of fines. These adjustments by the National Football League are going too far and some rule changes need to be reverted back to their previous rules.
