The hippie movement The hippies was a period in the 60's in which people mainly younger folks, were trying to break away from societies values that were being placed on them. They did by protesting what they saw wrong with the world, including the Vietnam War. Peace became the ultimate message of the 60's. At the beginning of the 1960s, many Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of a golden age. On January 20, 1961 John F Kennedy became president of the United States, being the youngest man to hold that office. Assassination of JFK November 22nd 1963 was a heartbreaking day in the United States, the 43 year old president John Fitzgerald Kennedy had been killed. He was riding in the back of a car through Dealey Plaza in Dallas with his wife, when all of a sudden a bullet hit his neck, then his head. Exactly where Kennedy got shot has been debated over the years. There is still no full explanation to why he was killed and how it all happened.
