Another action was the prohibition was also going on during this time that lasted from 1920-1933. Lots more people were alo living in cities instead of on farms. They changed their traditional way to be, way to act and dress to gain respect, and the liberty of independence. Society had different ways of ideals and the ways women were willing to do were disapproved of, and it was wrong for lots of different people, including women from the older generation. The 1920’s was a time of progress due to many different reasons that shaped our country to what it is today. Women’s rights have progressed in many ways that have improved the lives of women in that time period and is the reason women have the rights and privileges they have in Canada today. Women have gained the right to vote, even though not all women have gained this right, it was still a step in the right direction of progression. Women gaining this right was definitely progression in our country because of the amount of women fighting for this privilege and it made our country what it is today and is the main reason women 's rights and equality has come so far in our country. Prior to the Roaring Twenties, America was in a Victorian era. Women wore dresses that were floor-length, their hair was long and premarital sex was almost non-existent. During the 1920’s however, some women became what are known as “flappers”.
Women are usually looked down upon, and so they have to fight for rights that they should already have. In the 1920’s women started to realize their rights were worth fighting for. The women’s rights movement and the nineteenth amendment gave women a lot of hope for their future and their daughters ' futures.

"New Women," or flappers, were young women who embraced the new ideas, freedoms, and modernism of the Roaring Twenties. Flappers wore new and popular clothing from the era. Their signature look was short "bob" hair, which represented their independence to men. A majority of flappers were women's suffrage activist.
Election Day, 1920, millions of American women headed to the voting centers to vote for the first time ever. This was arguably the biggest moment in the gender equality history.
