What Went Terrible in “The Triangle Factory Fire”. The Triangle Factory Fire was a disaster from the start. The Triangle Factory produced fabrics. Unfortunately, the way everything was positioned inside the building caused more deaths than there should have been. According to https://www. csun.edu/~ghy7463/mw2. html “there was 146 deaths in the triangle factory fire”. This was one of the deadliest events in New York prior to 9/11. The hazards of the building itself and the disorganized factory floor increased the damages and death toll of this terrible event. The materials and the furnishings of the factory led to the fire becoming out of controI. The fact that this was a fabric factory means that there was an added risk because the material is so flammable. Safety was not a concern though. Scraps of fabric were lying around all over the floors and tables. The work tables were also made of wood, and were very long. Once the fire was started, the tables easily caught on fire. The long tables also acted as obstacles for the employees as they attempted to leave. Firstly, the doors were always locked to the stairwell making it extremely difficult for workers to escape or for firefighters to enter the 9th floor. Additionally, the fire department’s biggest ladder could only reach the 6th floor, meaning workers had to escape on their own. Also, fires make their way up not down so the 8th,9th and 10th floor was going to get destroyed by the fire. The building didn’t have a sprinkler system they only had buckets of water standing by.
