For the past decade or two, one issue that continues to get worse and worse is obesity. Several researchers have been trying to figure out different methods to lower the percentage of obese children and adults. Many have argued that the wrong way of fighting obesity is banning certain foods and saving money for anti-obesity measures. In the blog, What You Eat Is Your Business, author Radley Balko goes into depth about what he believes is right to fight obesity by explaining the different methods many have considered doing. Throughout this whole blog, Balko uses logical reasoning onto why the methods we are using today are not the right methods to fight obesity. He uses specific statistics coming from credible sources from the Government, Time Magazine, and New York Times Magazine. Instead of trying to emotionally persuade the readers, he makes them think of Americans as citizens and understand what also the obese people are going through. Balko states, ¨We´re becoming less responsible for our own health, and more responsible for everyone else´s. Your heart attack drives up the cost of my premiums and office visits. And if the government is paying for my anti-cholestesterol medication, what incentive is there for me to put down the cheeseburger?¨ By adding in rhetorical questions like that, it doesn’t just make the author sympathize, but it brings them to reality and helps them actually notice what has been going on.
