Executive Summary The goal of this report is to define the need of accessing feet by wheelchair consumers, and examine the methods which have been used in the past to allow the user to reach their feet. In addition, several existing technologies that help design such wheelchair with feet accessibility will be discussed. Finally, existing models of wheelchairs with feet accessibility will be challenged and critiqued, and possible refinements will be made. Several scholarly, reliable sources including patents, professional organization websites, articles, and books are used to prepare this report. Over the years, many refinements have been made to improve wheelchairs in order to ensure safety, comfort, manoeuvrability, durability, low propulsion effort, and other desirable features required in a wheelchair. However, only a few researches have been done on foot accessibility, and available solutions to overcome the issue. There are several steps which the user must follow in order to put on his/her socks. First, the disabled person Holds the stocking with the heel facing him or her and place it on the inside of the curved part of the metal stocking donor. Second, he or she stretches out the stocking over the metal frame and pushes it until the heel is inside. Third, the user places the donner in front of the leg and gently slides the foot into the stocking, and finally finishes the donning by distributing the compression (Fikes, R, 2011). In contrast to the previous method, metal donner does not require the wheelchair user to bend down. As a result, it makes the process of wearing socks safer and more pleasant.
