Thought Without Reasoning The characters in Romeo and Juliet in no way had easy lives, but life could have been easier if only some decisions were not made. Characters found in this play experienced tragedy and anger because of the decisions made by them or around them. In Romeo and Juliet, the characters were foolish and did not think before making decisions that seriously affected them. The first character in Romeo and Juliet that exhibits the foolish trait is Romeo. Romeo showed his foolish side when Tybalt was offending Romeo with his words, and Romeo played it off letting everything Tybalt said slide by(3.1.59-88). Tybalt was extremely rude and Romeo could not have cared less about what was said. This is foolish because Romeo should …show more content…

One of the many examples of this would be when Capulet said that he would disown Juliet if she did not marry Paris(3.4.190-204). Capulet threatened Juliet by using the fear tactic. If she refused to marry Paris, she could keep breathing, but could no longer eat, sleep, or breath in Capulet's home. Capulet’s reaction to Juliet proved Capulet would throw a fit at anytime, which made him look foolish and stubborn. Capulet also showed his silliness when he first planned to have this wedding between Juliet and Paris. Juliet easily shows this when she was manipulating her mom while talking about Romeo.(3.5.84-105) While Lady Capulet was talking about punishing Romeo for killing Tybalt, she was talking about poisoning his drink and Juliet quickly stepped in stating that she would would temper his drink herself so he would “sleep in quiet”, which to Lady Capulet made it sound like he would be dead but to Juliet, it means he would just be temporarily resting. Juliet also played with her words when she said, “Indeed I never shall be satisfied with Romeo till I behold him-dead-is my poor heart so for a kinsman vex’d”(3.5.96-98). This showed Juliet’s logic in satisfying both sides. She makes it seem like she wants Romeo dead, but in context she really means her heart will be dead. This type of logic shows her quick wit. Although Juliet did show a logical side, she still is foolish. The most underlying example of this would be marrying Romeo in less than a day of even meeting him(2.2.148-154). Juliet had no knowledge of the type of person Romeo was, yet she went straight into accepting the marriage proposal. Horrible things could have resulted, and she did not even think of the consequences that could have
