Your future is whatever you make it.” (Dr. Emmett Brown) Macbeth shaped his destiny; he didn't need anyone's help to become the man he became. William Shakespeare wrote Macbeth, which is about an ambitious general who becomes greedy when three witches predict his destiny; everything that happens in this story stems from these prophecies. In what ways does Macbeth try to control the future and bury the past? He tries to control the future by listening to no one but himself. He attempts to bury the past by disregarding what he has done and convincing himself that he is correct. He tries everything he can to rid himself of the witches' forecasts. He dispatches assassins to kill Banquo and his son as soon as he recalls the prophecy that Banquo will be greater than him. When the three witches reveal their final prophecies, he feels safe. In those days, kings would murder even their own families to maintain their position of authority. Macbeth gives the command to kill his best buddy. Why? Since the witches foretold that his sons would rule as kings. Another instance of Macbeth seeking to influence the future is his effort to kill Macduff after hearing the second round of witches' prophecies. When Macduff decided to work with his enemies, Macbeth was furious and used his authority to change his fate.
