He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love.” Regardless of whether this quote was meant for the United States, it applies to Australia too. It is necessary to forgive to achieve reconciliation. After all, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between our First Nations people and non-indigenous people. To begin, we first must understand their perspective of things, their perspective which we were unable to see due to a wall, equivalent to the Berlin wall where neither side can cross and see each other. Why has it been almost two hundred and fifty years since the arrival of the first fleet and no change in reconciliation is evident? Is this the country Aussies stand proud of? We must revise this hole in society, we can turn a new page in history and finally embrace our differences. We can remove this Berlin Wall. If we do this, then the woes of Australia’s first nations people will be no more. The song is a great way to understand indigenous perspectives as it tells Archie Roach’s personal experience as part of the Stolen Generation. The song states, “I would not lie to you, like the promises they did not keep”. This highlights the injustices, betrayal, and the authorities’ disregard for them during their struggle for reconciliation.
