In the passage “When The Empire State Building Was New” the author discusses the motivation for building such a grand skyscraper the Empire State Building is a very remarkable building. The Empire State Building was the tallest building in new york. “It stands hundreds of feet taller than the skyscrapers around it which is remarkable because their are tons of other building and it was the tallest. you can also see it from new jersey and long island which are both pretty far away from where the building stands and they are states. It was the tallest building for up to 40 years and that is a log time. And It also has a mooring mast that stands 1,300 feet on top of the building to make it so nobody could make their building taller for a long time. It was built during the great depression “ . . . on March 17 --St. Patrick’s Day --the work on the skyscraper began.” during the great depression many people did not have jobs and were going bankrupt. The building was planned from top to bottom this is a accomplishment because most people did not plan buildings this way.
