When Was Gatling Accused In The Crucible

In 1964, Paul Gatling was falsely accused of murdering an artist named Lawrence Rothbart. Gatling was sentenced to 30 years in prison after his lawyers convinced him to plead guilty in addition to not having legal protection during his questioning. Sadly, one of Rothbort’s neighbors claimed that Gatling was seen close to the scene at the time of the murder, and lawyers urged Mrs. Rothbort to identify Gatling as a suspect. However, in 1763 Gatlin was proved innocent and released (Feuer 1-3). Gatling was claimed to be the murderer with little proof, solely based on the identification from Rothbort. Similarly, In The Crucible by Arthur Miller and Witch Child by Celia Rees, false claims based on intolerance of witchcraft lead to unjust consequences.
