The medieval flail was a weapon that was used during the medieval times and was introduced in Medieval Flail 10th - 15th century around Europe and was invented by the Egyptians first as and agricultural tool and was later converted to a weapon. It was designed as a short staff with a spiked ball attached by chain it was most commonly used by knights on foot and knights on horseback had different designs being lighter and small. Who used the flail? The flail was used by both knights on foot and knights on horse back. The knights on foot use bigger flails with bigger handles and bigger chains than the common flail, the knight on foots flail is bigger for a 2 handed swing and strike with more power. The knights on horse back have smaller flails with small handle and small chains for a 1 handed swing and strike while controlling a horse. Medieval Knight How were they designed? The Flail developed from a steel ball on a wooden handle, to wildly shaped spiked ball. The Flail was commonly made of a wooden handle but was sometimes made from a metal handle.
