“Between 1934 and 1943, about 3 million people visited a Canadian tourist attraction called Quintland, in the middle of nowhere. Culture plays a large role on how someone views others and the world. Some things that can affect some one’s perspective are their childhood, past experiences, and their ethnic background. In “An Indian Father’s Plea” by Robert Lake, Wind-Wolf’s father, Medicine Grizzly Bear, explains why his child isn’t a slow learner, and that he is just different from the other children in an educational way. He say’s this because his son has been taught differently than the other children- because of his Indian culture.
Culture affects how humans view themselves, others and the greater world around them. Therefore, having a culture to call one's own allows an individual to form a unique identity which can also grow to be a source of comfort. One can also be prideful of their culture, using it as a motivator for their actions. All these qualities can be exemplified by protagonist Bugz, in the novel, "Walking in Two Worlds" by Wab Kinew.
By doing this, the reader calls to attention subordinate nature of the inhabitants to the authority of the Borderlands. Moreover, readers can see the effects that the Borderlands has on the individual clearly listed below the first line. This scheme creates a cause-effect pair allowing for one to view these effects as a clear result of the Borderlands condition. In addition to this, the author makes use of enjambment to offer contrasting ideas that simultaneously exist within the mind of the inhabitants. As one can see in the first stanza, the inhabitants “are neither bispana india negra española / ni gabacha, eres mestiza, mulata, half-breed” (2-3).
In the book Of Beetles and Angels, by Mawi Asgedom, a sudanese refugee family immigrates to America, seeking new life. The value of reading Of Beetles and Angels is that it shows that you can become something from nothing in the hardest situations. It shows the value of setting goals, working hard, and being kind to others. In OBAA, Mawi shows the value of setting goals and persisting to get them.
Culture is the building block for life. It sets society's standards, it sets our own standards, and everything we know is all because of our culture. Culture is a way of thinking, a way of behaving and learning. We express our opinions based upon our beliefs, and define ourselves by what aspects of our culture we choose to show. Culture's impact on someone's perspective of others and the world is greater than its other influencers because it can change how you interact with people, your ability to change, and your opinions of the world.
Omelas is known to be a “perfect” society but there was this room that had no windows and there was a child who was trapped to there. He was beat everyday in order for the town to remain peaceful and the people who came and saw the child left in tears and anger. “They leave Omelas, they walk ahead into the darkness, and they do not come back” (4). These people don’t accept the world for how it is, and they are determined to do something. Every day we use our culture. Whether it be to argue claims, express opinions, or make decisions, culture plays a part in each area. Culture is who we are, one’s identity, its extent is enormous over our views and actions. A person grows up surrounded with culture at a young age. This can affect how they learn and what they learn.

The women of Angel Hill are a symbol of the constant struggle, but the held belief and trust that the scarcity will go away so they must survive this dark time. The instruments and angels are both symbols of their awareness of our dreams and how society can make or break them. The instruments were symbols of death; not of these people but the death of their belief for their music world. The angels represent not only the individuals themselves that live in this place, but also a sense of trust in a higher power to bring the ‘American Dream’ to Angel Hill. In this case, the people of Angel Hill pray to the spirits for the long drought but all they receive in return is the ‘angels whisper’
Definition of the word worldview can vary greatly, ranges from “we are all what we think” which has been inspired by Buddha, to a more current view being that it is a set of assumptions and beliefs that have an all-powerful effect , both on cognition and behavior. In brief, worldview influences and impacts the way a person view their surroundings, their lives as well as other people in their environment (Sue & Sue, 2003). Culture is only a single word that besets a plethora of categories which can influence a person’s thoughts, beliefs, actions and morals. Enclosing a myriad of life experiences, family values and lessons into a single word is quite a challenge. I am a product of Italian American culture.
