Twin City was incorporated in 1921, gets its name from the combining of two adjacent cities they are Graymont and Summit. Twin City began as two towns, Summit and Graymont, which merged in 1921 to survive the effects of the Great Depression. The small town of Summit began in 1886 with the construction of the Rogers and the Summit Railroad (Now the Millen Southwestern Railroad) and was incorporated in 1898. The town of Graymount established in 1896 and incorporated in 1900, was located one-mile from summit and had its own depot and post office. WCC, also known as the White Citizen’s Council was formed on 11 July, 1954, by Robert Patterson. In Little Rock a local version of the WCC was (CCC), Capital Citizen’s Council, formed in 1956. These organizations used violence (and intimidated whites) to fight against civil rights and desegregation groups. Their goal was to economically and socially crush the coloured people, which is why MLK Jr. once stated that WCC is like the ‘modern’ KKK. By 1955, WCC (including CCC) had more than 60,000 members.

The first point that Rhodes makes is his idea of the term ‘chav’ and ‘white working class’ means. His second point that he makes is his definition of what whiteness is, and how the concept of it is constantly changing. He also makes the point that the purpose of defining whiteness often is used to exclude a subgroup of people who are white, but don’t follow the same ideals or political beliefs. One of the final points in the article, Rhodes theorizes that the ‘white working class’ sometimes recognizes the existence of white privilege, and tries to use that to try and get better treatment than black working class
These racially motivated police brutality issues are known to happen all across the country in places like Michigan to places like Idaho. On July 27, 1919, an African-American teenager drowned in Lake Michigan after being stoned by a group of white teenagers. The combination of his death and the police’s refusal to arrest a white man who saw this event occur and did nothing is what caused The Chicago Race Riot. When the riots ended on August 3rd, 15 whites and 23 blacks were killed and an additional 500+ people were injured. Many upper class white families were left homeless after their homes were torched in the riots.
This quote once again brings up the point of white writers stereotyping blacks for the amusement of a specific audience, who are mostly white individuals. Continuing, Mateeka also goes on to discuss how in some cases white writers make more money off of using black characters in a novel than a black writer who uses their own race in a novel. This quote shows how much white writers are able to prosper and entertain their audience by creating stereotype filled novels.
White Privilege: Essay 1 White privilege is a systemic issue that has roots in our history as far back as the creators of our country. Searching back, we see our norms and values created into habits that have been woven into how we view and act around specific groups such as African Americans. This essay is going to explain how the average Caucasian individual experiences white privilege on a day to day basis and the solutions to insure that white privilege will stop and true equality can be handed out. This paper views the latter issues through symbolic interactionism, with supporting sub theories such as; labeling theory, looking glass self, and selective perception.
Hayes learned that the vast majority of the patients only used Boardwalk Clinic during the times when their current caregivers were unavailable and they planned on returning to their current medical providers during traditional business hours. Thus, patients that need services during nontraditional hours most likely chose Boardwalk Clinic as their second choice, only because their first choice was not available. Although Dr. Hayes and her colleagues had a better understanding of the retention issue, they were still at a loss as to what steps the clinic could take to attract those patients in the Chelsea marketplace who already had relationships with other healthcare providers to make Boardwalk their first choice. There are a couple steps Boardwalk Clinic could take to ensure an increased rate of patient retention.
Critical Whiteness Studies responds to the invisible and normative nature of whiteness in predominantly white societies, criticizing racial and ethnic attribution of non-white subjects who have to grapple with their deviation from the set norm, and opening the discussion on white privilege that results from being the unmarked norm (Kerner: 278). As Conway and Steyn elaborate, Critical Whiteness Studies aims to “redirect[...] the scholarly gaze from the margins to the centre” (283) and, more specifically, to interrogat[e][...] the centre of power and privilege from which racialization emanates but which operates more or less invisibly as it constructs itself as both the norm and ideal of what it means to be human.
