This story is mainly about two people who had married went to find the sunlight because the world they lived in was polluted deadly by bomb’s overused. In the middle of their journey, their scooter broke down so they were forced to stop their journey in a small village. In the village, they had found a thing which was not belong to them, and they send it to the owner. Fortunately, finally, they had found the sunlight in a special place, enjoyed it for a short period, and after they returned, they decided not to tell others that they found sunlight. I think the author, Joan Aiken, wanted to use this story to show us three main things that we should change, learn, and feel. First, the bomb. I think that was the best suited example of ‘White Lie’. White lies is to protect others, otherwise, black lies are told to protect ourselves. No one got hurt or turned angry when white lies are told by someone else. Black lies are used to lie to someone else mainly for his own advantage. Mainly, people get advantage or hurt. In contrary to white lies, which is good lies, such as parents lies about angel, black lies refers to the symbolism of the ‘black’ itself, which means bad. You can say that the lie which they said was probably not fit into white lie’s definition, however, it was definitely not fit into the black lie. In the story, after they got back, they decided to conceal the place where was full of sunshine. They enjoyed the sunshine, but others did not, you may say that was not fair. However, by hiding the place can prevent it becoming over crowded, and finally become the dark place again. They wanted to protect the poor people who lived in there who think that the sky was always blue. What is selfishness? To be Selfish is to be bad, sometimes excessively for someone’s own ambition, advantages, not thinking of others. We can see that the people in the story are selfish. They were all searching for sunlight, and do not care about the consequence that may affect the original people who lived there. They did it not in purpose, however, it harmed the people by endless tourists caused by the people who announced
