Ethical Dilemma: Discovered by Unarmed Combatants During Operation Red Wing, a reconnaissance mission partaken by a group of U.S. Navy Seal Team 10, Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy and his team were spotted by three civilians. LT Murphy was immediately asked the most discomforting question of a young Leader’s career, “what do we do?” Considering the question in accordance with similar events and laws concerning the Law of Warfare, I often ask myself what I would do if I was behind enemy lines and my positioned was uncovered by unarmed civilians. I would allow the civilians to go free and immediately attempt to return to my operational outpost because killing innocent people is against the law, unethical, and counterproductive to the overall goal within the Global War on Terrorism.
The phrase “through pain, comes discipline” may sound strange or even unorthodox to the average person, but to someone who has stepped on the yellow footprints at Parris Island, they might beg to differ. It was an intense first night on the island to say the least; about 60 of us or so packed on a small bus that was well over capacity, and the fear could be sensed in us all. I remember the long silence finally being broken by a drill instructor’s polite words to “get the hell off his bus”, after those kind words were said we all did in fact get off of his bus; where I was greeted by the humid and cool November air of South Carolina; to this day I can still smell the swamps that surround the Island. They say that anyone who does decide to step on those yellow footprints fall under one of two categories: those that are “crazy brave” and those that are “phony tough”. In hindsight I can safely say that I was the latter of the two, but there was a lesson to be learned on that island for everyone there, and for me it was a lesson in humility.

In modern society, lying is a common practice. A person may lie protect themselves, or to gain something wanted. This may be due to religious diversity or the decay of respect in society.
I should have taken upon myself to ask for help when I was writing my paper by using the other Sgt at house. Use better moral judgment, before turning in a paper that was not my own work to Sgt Brantley. This all started with me given a Senior NCO Disrespect. I see now this can be avoided by taking few seconds using a better tone and phrasing of my words. As a Corporal of the United States Marines that was unprofessional of me to act that way.

Covering can have an abundant amount of definitions. In the military, covering means to put your hat on. For Yoshino’s case, the term covering is used to express the hiding of one’s identity. More specifically, his exact definition translates to the toning down of a disfavored identity to fit in with the mainstream. In the beginning, Yoshino explained the meaning of covering, which is conducted by a majority of the human race.
Why we Lie Lies are all around us from fake products on television to our everyday discussions to fake people. We can lie for various reasons such as not hurting our friends and families feeling to making things better for yourself. Lying can also get you out of trouble which is related to the 38 who saw a murder the lady could have been saved if someone decided to speak up and call the police who arrived in two minutes. The 38 people had three opportunities to save the ladies life but the witnesses later they claimed not wanting to get involved.

Stephanie Ericsson begins her explorative essay, “The Ways We Lie,” with a personal anecdote of all the lies she fabricated in one day. She told her bank that a deposit was in the mail when it was not, told a client that the traffic had been bad when she was late for other reasons, told her partner that her day was fine when it was really exhausting, and told her friend she was too busy for lunch when she just was not hungry, all in the course of a day. She shifts from talking about herself to talking about everyone, claiming that all people lie, exaggerate, minimize, keep secrets, and tell other lies. But, like herself, most still consider themselves honest people. She describes a week in which she tried to never tell a lie; it was debilitating, she claims.
Lying is a cooperative act. People tend to blame deceivers. But if we can just limit our excessive sympathy, we may find that in many cases it is the victims’ weakness and greed that indulges themselves in lies. Or, in other cases, it is due to laziness. I have read a comic called Liar Game.

To me lying is sometimes ok in life or death situations. Lying is necessary in life or death or protecting someone feelings situations.
We need to be honest with people to maintain ethical standards, integrity and credibility. We need to be trustworthy and reliable. It is good for business and relationships too. However, if you truly want to be highly successful in life and achieve any big dreams you want to achieve, you must first learn to lie to yourself when the time is right. To achieve a higher level of success in anything, we all need to become a higher level of person first.
