Whitney Houston was one of the first greatest african american women who did not hide their talent for singing against america. She was very well known after her amazingly unique performance of the national anthem at a big baseball event. However do not underestimate Whitney Houston she did not just all of a sudden get this national another gig. She had to work extra hard to even get that gig because America did not know the talent of this fifteen year old . especially since she was african american because this was the time period when they were just breaking through because the first was Michael Jackson and then her. She started off in her church which she thanks god for everything that she has because without him her talent would be nothing. Being in the church choir really helped her start her singing career off really strong. She claimed that “ While serving my apprenticeship in that choir, I learned everything I need to know about singing.”(Heppermann Christine) That her church helped her grow and learn about music in a positive and encouraging way. After that, she began performing with her mother at her concerts. Her mother pulled her on stage because she knew that the crowd loved her. That is one of the main reasons that she got discovered because her mom was not famous but she was a little big in the small ton that they lived in chicago. She was spotted by Griffith( a music label manager) when her brought her on stage one time. He did not think that she was quite ready but he said that she had potential. Then two years later after her performance at the national anthem. He offered her a recording contract for their label. Which she graciously accepted his offer and later ended up producing a lot of albums that were top on the music charts for months. It is safe to see that she had a successful singing
