Whitney Houston was one of the greatest musicians in history. She once said, “I decided long ago to never walk in anyone’s shadow; if I fail, or if I succeed, at least I did as I believe.” (Uitti, Jacob. “The 25 Best Whitney Houston Quotes.” American Songwriter,) To me, this quote represents that blending in is not the most important thing, never giving up is what truly matters. To get to where she was, she made sure to stand out from the crowd and always try no matter the difficulty. Whitney was an important figure to American History, because she helped pave the way for many black female singers after her. She proved to lots of people who doubted her that she could be great.
On August 9th, 1963, Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to parents Cissy and John Houston in Newark, New Jersey. Her mother, Cissy, was a gospel, rhythm, and blues singer.
