Set in Yazoo City, Mississippi in the 1940s, My Dog Skip is an autobiography written by Willie Morris portrays the lively and remarkable relationship he had with his dog(Skip) through the adventures they had together in Willie’s childhood. The book describes all the notable memories Willie and Skip have in the past. Luckily to Willie, his friends came easy. One time in middle school, Willie felt sorry for always seeing Skip just watch them play football on the sidelines. In attempt to incorporate his best friend, Willie cuts a lace to the football in order to allow him play his friends.

The common theme in both of the short stories is centered around the cultural differences both girls faced due to the heirtage. Although both authours decsribed and expressed this in different ways they also share many similarities. Theirs stories help to show the many different people and cultures that America has to offer and express. The "Response to Exeuctive Order 9066" express how she feels about her American identity, whereas "Mericans" ties more into her hispanic family.
The discussions between Dog and Vera indicated the two knew each other and even lived near each other prior to the start of the play. Moreover, the two were the only two that knew each other prior to Dog deciding to be a dog. The two lived in an isolated community, likely a college campus or religious institution, away from the rest of the world, until it inevitably fell to the apocalypse. In contrast, Bug and Coke, two Scavengers used provocative, crude language and conveyed aggressive personalities through their language and clothing. Although, the furs imply possible animalistic behavior, unlike Dog they also adopted animalistic behavior to survive and hunt not to hide.
The room comforted him, the air was warm and cozy, and the smells in the home were nowhere close to the ones in the disgusting pound. The smell of their lovely house was glamourous and homely and made all the dogs pleasantly overjoyed. The man and women always have the biggest and joyous smiles and, The touch there nice, cheerful hand brought a pleasant joy to Rufus as he lay upon the floor getting pet. When, Rufus awoke the next morning to a fresh breakfast and a delicious,taste bud tingling meal he knew this was where he belonged. He states, “the smell, snoring, and social graces…”, relating a kennel full of pugs to his tent mates. These words are attached to negative connotations since he links the habits and characteristics of a pug to his fellow soldiers. This clearly shows that this soldier does not enjoy staying in the tent. In the following paragraph, the writer explains hygiene and warmth. He states, “It gets freakin’ cold here at night.”
