The Crucible, a story that deals with the subject of the Salem witch trials, involves many important and unanswered questions.Whether or not real witches appeared in Salem or only paranoid and superstitious people, remains an unanswered question to this day. Multiple important characters appeared throughout the story, those people made the most impact to the story. Overall for “The Crucible” the most important character hands down, Abigail Williams. Her role in the story belongs with the other teenage girls, someone saw them doing something they should not have done, they lied, setting off a chain reaction of events and thus starting the witch trials. Abigail equals the most important character throughout the whole story, in the beginning of the story she claimed a victim stance, but as things progressed she clearly unfolded into the villain behind all the terror and pain, she also represented the misogynistic view of women. Abigail Williams began a victim to the whole story, this subject argued against by many though. Abigail claimed that she embodies the victim of hatred from many. She also speaks about how her reputation never had a mark on it, “spotless”, but she and her pride do not want to admit to having spots on her reputation. She led all the other girls in their purge of “Witches”, she even threatened them that if they told the truth, she would hurt them.
