Society try’s to control every member. The problem with this is each individual is different. Which means Abigail and the other girls are victims during the Salem trials in their town. In the play, “The Crucible,” written by A. Miller, Abigail is a victim to her society due to the fact that she is controlled by social rules, she is a female, and she has limited to no power.
Some people might infer in how she was the one who brought the kids to the woods to dance. Although this point seem as it is what caused the chaos, it was mostly when Abigail scared the girls off by drinking he chicken’s blood. Abigail had blamed Tituba by saying that Tituba would force her to drink the blood but Abigail has actually done it by herself. Abigail said “she makes me drink blood”(1109). She says that to save herself from a whipping but it only causes chaos throughout Salem.
Although Abigail Williams does not physically appear in Act 2, her presence is felt throughout The Crucible. She affects and hurts the lives of her family. She is the main source of trouble. If she wants something, she'll get it. At the beginning, there is a lot of closeness between her and the proctor family.
Society as a whole seeks to satisfy themselves. This may be at the expense of their peers or individuals they are associated with. Arthur Miller brilliantly displays this dark side of humanity’s side in his play The Crucible. This play is based on the Salem witch trials in the early 1690s. During the Salem witch trials over two hundred people were accused of witchcraft and twenty were executed.
How is it possible for some evil people to be dealing with the devil? Based on the story of The Crucible by Miller, a group of girls were dancing in the woods doing witchcraft. They got caught and attended court, but they refused to tell the truth as they were threaten by Abigail Williams. She started blaming innocent people because she had an affair with John Procter who didn't want her anymore. Judge Danforth believed the group of girls and he demands to execute the innocent people who were accused.
I believe that Abigail Williams was the villain in The Crucible. First, Abigail continuously accuses people of witchcraft. For example, in act 2 Abigail accuses Elizabeth of sending out her spirit to stab her with a needle in the stomach. In other words, religion is held in the highest regard and if people have even the smallest doubt that you are not the most faithful Christian then you are automatically questioned. Second, Abigail wrongly accuses Mary Warren of being a witch.
However, Abigail can still be seen as the most responsible for the witchcraft hysteria.

The witch trials that occurred in 1692 were written about in the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller; he recapped the trials that were caused by one girls rumors and jealousy. I believe that the blame is not put on one character, but the entire town of Salem. According to dictionary.com the word villain means, “a character in a play, novel, or the like, who constitutes an important evil agency in the plot.” The villain's name in this story may be known as Abigail, but she manages to put the blame of witchcraft on the entirety of the town while getting her name out of the mix.
In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows that truth does not concern the people of Salem; the townspeople are concerned with what they want the truth to be. The idea of witchcraft has plagued Salem, several girls including Tituba and Abigail have confessed to practicing witchcraft. Salem is relying on Abigail and her friends to tell the truth, they do not know that there is no thing as witchcraft. Proctor presents himself to the court to testify against Abigail, the court dose not listen because Danforth and the other court members are concerned with preserving the reputation of the court. While Abigail uses lies to protect her reputation, Proctor uses the truth.
The Crucible is a story referring to the Salem witch trials with a lot of different characters, but only one of these characters is to blame for the craziness of the witch trials. In The Crucible, Abigail is the most responsible for the hysteria in Salem because she has been lying since the start and also acted her way out of going to jail. Early in the play, readers quickly notice that Abigail lied to others around her. First, we see Abigail lying to her uncle and trying to convince him that what he saw was not what happened. “No one is naked!
Abigail The Victim In the Crucible many are to blame for the events that occurred, but one of the one’s who seems to take blame the most is Abigail Williams. She holds most of the responsibility because she was to blame for the girls meeting with Tituba in the woods. When Parris located the girls in the woods, Abigail tries to hide her behavior because she fears that it will uncover her affair with Proctor if she confesses that she attempted to cast a spell on his wife, Elizabeth. Abigail also lies to avoid being punished for witchcraft.
Lately there have been accusations of witchcraft going throughout Salem. Originally, I was part of the cause of these accusations. I did anything Abigail told me to do and kept it a secret that we did more than dance the night we were caught in the woods. If I were to tell the truth about everything that happened, Abigail has promised to bring harm to me, but if I keep her secret, innocent people could be unnecessarily executed. I have thought over and over about what I should do when I go in front of the judge.
The Crucible has many characters to blame when it comes to questioning why everything happened the way they did. It’s hard to describe a reasoning for all of this or exactly who to blame because there is so many different opinions and reasons to why everything is happening. A quote I think that does a fairly good job at this is, “There are wheels within wheels in this village, and fires within fires!”(Miller, Pg.148). The character I think that you can point to first and blame the most when asking why everything in Salem happened is Abigail Williams. There are three major reasons to why Abigail is to blame and the first is because she slept with John Proctor.

In a small village called Salem, witchcraft and sorcery exist, however everyone is pointing fingers but not a single soul knows who is actually to blame for this nonsense. During this time period of hysteria, there are multiple scenes that are very questionable due to one person and one person only. Abigail is the one most responsible for the hysteria and witchcraft in Salem. She threatens the group of girls that accompanied her in the woods while they all danced. She has also lied about many things on multiple occasions in which causes an extreme amount of suspicion.
