Arthur Millers, “The Crucible”, was written in 1953 about the Salem witch trials that took place in 1692. John Proctor, a small farmer, had an affair with Abigail Williams before the play started. Once his wife found out, she put Abigail out and John ended the affair. Abigail Williams is most responsible for the deaths which took place in the play. She is also one of the main characters because she and the other children of the town cried witchery. She led the group by lying to everyone because she didn’t want to get in trouble for dancing in the woods and summoning spirits, which ultimately lead to the deaths of over a dozen innocent people.
