Not Who You Believe Him To Be President Lincoln is viewed as one of America’s greatest presidents. Although this is believed to be true, that is not the case. President Lincoln had many faults within his term, that started right before the Civil War. In the story Remembering Who We Are: Observations of a Southern Conservative written by Melvin E. Bradford, talks about five keys points as to why Abraham Lincoln was not America’s greatest president. Starting with Lincoln’s well known legacy; his name was simply just that, but without the help of others in his life he would of been no one.
Who do you think was our greatest president? Between Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson, I believe that Lincoln was the strongest. Lincoln managed to bring our nation through the Civil War, "one of the bloodiest and costliest in the Nation 's history" (Stone 6) with his "leaderhship, his commitment to values, and his strong moral fiber" (Stone 3). He used various strategies to survive the war, including having advisors from the opposite viewpoint to be aware of both sides of every issue. What Lincoln is remembered most for, however, is his efforts to abolish slavery, which are considered "his greatest contribution to the history of America" (Stone 5).
William H. Taft was one of the best presidents because of his great leadership towards developing America. He served as the 27th president of the United States from 1909 to 1913 and as the tenth Chief of Justice as well. He was not the most popular president but he did do some amazing things to benefit our country as a whole. William H. Taft was the best president because he created jobs for millions of people with the start of the railroads. He built a way of communication across the country with the foundation of the postal service, and finally he showed his financial support to the military, schools, cities, and millions of people with the creation of taxes.
George Washington, the best president there was, he supported the country in many ways, whether it was his time in the military, being an outstanding diplomat, his itelligence, or preparing the United States for what it is today. Washington could have had absolute power over the people of the United States, instead he helped established the rules and laws to ensure it will be a free country. He had great communication skills considering he was a founding father and worked well with many other people. He put his heart and soul into this country always, he had intentions to make this country the best.
The stronger president in my opinion was Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was the strongest because he accomplished Civil rights and was the one who brought the country back as one. To bring the country back as one he; fought Confederate states, freed the slaves, and wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation is a letter that Abraham Lincoln wrote on January 1, 1863. The letter says that every single slave in the United States should be led free.
Our nation has had many great leaders and presidents. Many people could argue for hours over who was the best president and why. For me, the top three presidents were Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. They were each great for many different reasons and without them our nation wouldnt be the way it is today but personally, i think George Washington was the best and most influlential president. If you ask anyone in America who were the top leaders of our nation, Geroge Washington would almost always be on the top of most people list.
Abraham Lincoln He is one of the most respected presidents and civilians throughout the American and world history due to his revolutionary policies and accomplishments. He easily holds the highest ranking among his successors and predecessors. He signed the Homestead Acts which allowed the ones in poverty to own land; this ensured that people had foundation to begin with and was a highly acclaimed move. The current progressive tax system in the US runs on the system that was implemented during Lincoln’s presidency after his approval. The United States National Banking system was put into place due to Lincoln’s unyielding support to it.
In America we have had many presidents, they have done their job to get America this far. I would have to say that president Ronald Reagan would be my choice in who I think was the best President. I know I wasn 't alive when he was president but if I could I would like to live that time period. President Ronald Reagan was the 40th president. When president Reagan was elected on November 4, 1980 he was the oldest man ever elected at the age of 69.
Abraham Lincoln was the greatest 16th president the United States ever
Over the years, the United States has had many different presidents run the country. But only they can choose how they want to remembered by. Some of the best presidents that we've had were characterized as courageous, brave, and intelligent. Many need the courage to proclaim new ideas never thought or done before to better our country, brave when it comes to handling dangerous situations, and intelligent when consider every possible move they're making to help benefit our country in a whole. The best US President, in my eyes, was George Washington. He was a strong character who had to overcome many things in his life. One of the greatest things he had to overcome was unknown to many people. George Washington suffered many illnesses such as: Diphtheria, tuberculosis, smallpox, dysentery, malaria, tonsillitis, carbuncle, pneumonia, and epiglottitis. Regardless of his disease, George Washington was always doing things for other people.
I believe that Abraham Lincoln should be ranked first among the other leaders of the US. He has born from a humble family and worked his way to become the 16th President in 1860. He faced some obstacles when he was the president, however, due to his prowess in leadership he was able to overcome them by undertaking some changes that existed in the society and made the United States a better compared to other places. (Knudson, Jerry 103) Among his great developments as the president was the establishment of the US Department of Agriculture and others that included Homestead Act and Thanksgiving, he also brought great developments in higher education and led to resolving of the Civil War.
Over hundreds of years America has had many presidents, some able to complete the tasks at hand, but many were not worthy of leading this nation. President Abraham Lincoln was one of the few who led the United States of America with great strength and courage. Abraham Lincoln was the best U.S. president because he had a great impact on ending slavery and he was one of the greatest natural strategists and leaders of all time. Abraham Lincoln is considered to be America 's wisest president. Abraham Lincoln, "proved to be a shrewd military strategist and a savvy leader during what became the costliest conflict ever fought on American soil."
The greatest president that has ever served the United States is George Washington. He was not only the first president of the United States but also the commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was victorious over the British and quickly became a hero doing so. He helped draft the constitution and with his leadership and courage. As first president, he become a role model for every other present succeeding him and helped create our countries values that we cherish so much today.
