While many of his policies were seen as great strides for American democracy, his actions towards Native American tribes and enslaved Africans make him a villain to many. During his presidency, Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830, which forcibly removed thousands of Native Americans from their ancestral lands and caused immense suffering and death.
