Hopeless. Fearful. Ready to give up. These are some of the things the prisoners felt. But not Andy. All throughout his time in prison in this film, he never gave up on anything he did. The film I will be discussing is The Shawshank Redemption. One good thing that Andy did was help build a library for the prison. He had so much determination even though everybody else doubted that his idea would ever happen. For six continuous years, Andy wrote to the state congress to get funds for the library. He wrote them two times a day every week and they were finally so tired of it, they gave him the funds he needed. All the other prisoners were intrigued by this. They all helped Andy organize the library and make it into something great. Along the way, Andy met Tommy, a new prisoner at Shawshank prison. Andy didn’t give up on Tommy. He studied with Tommy every day even though at times Tommy would get frustrated and just give up. He helped Tommy earn his GED. Tommy also said he knew about who really committed the murder that Andy was being convicted for. He was willing to help Andy and the warden wanted none of it. Whenever Andy said it, they would laugh and say they were all innocent. Andy though, always held true to that and never gave up hope that he would one day get out of prison by any means. Throughout the nineteen years he was in prison, he was clever about the steps he took to get out. In the film, it showed how Andy in a way developed a relationship with the warden and the warden confided in Andy. The warden let Andy take care of all the financial problems and the whole time Andy had a plan to stay with that money. Later, he ended up escaping by making a hole in the wall with a rock hammer he had hidden away in a
