She asked thousands of highschool juniors to take a grit questionnaier as she waited around to see who graduted. To her conlsuion and studies, it turned out that grittier kids were significantly more likely to gradute. Although she tried to match them on every characteristic she could think of, wheter it be things like family income, standardized test scores, achievement test scores,and even how safe kids felt when they were at school. Immediately Angela realized that it is not just at West Point or the National spelling bee it is also at school, specially where kids are in risk of dropping out. Something shocking to her was “ how little we know, how little science knows about building grit” (Duckworth 98). Everyday she got calls and messages from parents and teachers worried about how can grit be build in others or encourage in others. But in reality she did not know.
