Lewis Series C.S. Lewis wrote The Chronicles of Narnia series in the 1950s, while he was a professor at Oxford University. The series has been published in forty-seven different languages and over 100 million copies have been sold. Lewis was an atheist until the age of 33, when he converted to Christianity and followed his desire to devote the rest of his life to writing about his new-found faith. The Magician’s Nephew portrays details of Lewis’ faith. Lewis took over five years to complete The Magician’s Nephew, leaving it to be published in 1955. In 1956, the seventh and final novel of the series was published, The Last Battle, completing the original publication of the series. But, that was not the end. Lewis’ readers had strong opinions about the order in which the series should be read. They believed that the original publication order did not match the chronological order of events. So, in 1994, a man by the name of Harper Collins took over the rights to the series. Collins then republished the series in what is known as the Harper Collins order, the chronological order.
