He spent most of his life fighting for the rights of migrant farm workers. The actions he took changed the law, and gave the workers the rights they deserved. Cesar stood for equality, justice, and dignity for everyone (Cesar Chavez Foundation, 2012). Chavez was born on March 31, 1927 in Yuma Arizona (Softschools, 2005-2018).

President Clinton awarded Cesar Chavez the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994 (Softschools, 2005-2018). This award is the nation's highest civilian honor, at the White House (Cesar Chavez Foundation, 2012). The president was able to recognize that he was hard working and made a change to the country. He was recognized for the achievements he worked so hard to accomplish. Across the nation schools, libraries, streets, parks, awards, and scholarships have all been named after him (Cesar Chavez Foundation, 2012). People have been so inspired by him that they want to honar him in any way. He made change happen in a way no else has ever done. Cesar’s birthday March 31st, is a national holiday in ten states. This association was dedicated to farm workers’ rights. He was able to create an association that fought for something he believed in. The NFW merged into the United Farm Workers in 1966 (Softschools, 2005-2018). They went on strike for five years fighting to get grape growers to sign a contract. A union contract that both the farm workers and grape growers agreed on was first established by the UFW. In the contracted included rest periods, insurance, bathrooms, protective clothing against pesticides, banning discrimination, and prohibiting pesticide spraying while workers are in the field (Cesar Chavez Foundation, 2012).
