What can be more powerful? Love, lust, Beauty, money? Or all of the Above? In the short story Winter Dreams by F. Scott Fitzgerald shows us the reader the life of Dexter Green and his so called love for Judy Jones. Through the story the reader can see how Judy uses is for his money and only occurs in his life when she chooses too. She has many lovers who are wealthy and those who are not are left in the dust behind her. When Dexter is to be married she ruins his marriage to be by having an affair. Little does Dexter know that many years later he hear the news of Judy Jones not being beautiful, where now his winter dream is lost jst like Judy’s beauty. Looking at Dexters life and how he carries on about who he wants to be, one can see he lets others dictate his life and his decisions on who he was as a person. …show more content…

What he doesn’t realize is the women he so call loves only wants his money, and uses him throughout the years that she pops in and out of his life. When Judy Jones tells Dexter of the other man in her life who she is avoiding because he does not have much money, it is obvious Dexter is relieved but puzzled. ¨ There was a man I cared about, and this afternoon he told me out of a clear sky that he was as poor as a church-mouse. He never even hinted it before. Doesn't that sound horribly mundane?¨ ( Fitzgerald, 1922) While Judy is saying this to Dexter she is inferring to him that in the case he doesn't have money she wants nothing to do with him.
