Dexter’s Dream “Winter Dreams” was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1922 and released in the Metropolitan Magazine the same year. This short story follows a young man named Dexter Green. Although he is not a poor man he strives to became one of the upper class. He grows up in a well-off family. His father runs the "second best grocery-store in Black Bear". Dexter works at the Sherry Island country club as a golf caddie for walking around cash. This is where he would meet one Judy Jones, daughter of , who would Mortimer Jones, become the object of his affection. This encounter with Judy starts Dexter's obsession with wealth and fame. By the end of "Winter Dreams," his obsession is gone. Dexter’s first encounter with Judy Jones comes on the golf course of Sherry Island country club golf course. Judy is first seen verbally abusing her nurse. Calling her “You damn little mean old thing!”. This is when Dexter’s dream creeps into his young mind. This eleven-year-old girl fascinates him and dominates his thoughts. Judy becomes the object of Dexter’s dreams. She is the epitome of what Dexter thinks is greatest. When he runs into a now grown up Judy Jones. He still feels that strange connection to her but is not sure what it truly is. Dexter and Judy start a relationship but, it seems one sided with all the affection coming from Dexter. Even if it is one-sided it doesn't seem to bother Dexter. He is consumed by his dream. His dream of wealth and fame. Judy is the embodiment of that dream and any attention he can get from Judy he takes. Even if this is bad for his mental health. That high he gets from her attention is enough to keep him coming back to her. This only strength his belief in his dream of wealth and fame and he believes she is the way to get there. This relationship does not last and both Dexter and Judy go their separate
