Every action taken is often followed by a series of consequences, either positive or negative. In the epidemic Romeo and Juliet authored by William Shakespeare, the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, face death by the end of the tragedy. Taking place in Verona, Italy, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall in love instantly even though their families are involved in an ancient feud. The Montagues and Capulets would not approve of their love affair which is why the young couple was forced to keep their affection primarily to themselves. Throughout this play, Romeo and Juliet encounter a series of problematic situations that they can not get themselves out of. In desperate measures Juliet arrives to the Friar’s cell for comfort but instead, the Friar rids Juliet of her sorrows by providing her with a potion that will make her seem as though she is dead so she will not have to marry the prince Paris. When Romeo receives news from his servant about Juliet’s “death” he takes action immediately by stating, “Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight” (Shakespeare 213). Friar Lawrence’s decision on giving the vile to Juliet drove Romeo to want to kill himself just so he could lie with his wife in her grave. Once the potion wears off and Juliet awakens, she discovers Romeo’s dead body next to her so she also decides to commit suicide to join her husband. If the Friar had never given the potion to Juliet, Romeo would not have gotten news of her death so he and Juliet would not have killed themselves for each other.
