The name Milwaukee comes from the Algonquian word “Millioke” which means “Beautiful” “Good” and “Pleasant land.” Although the city of Milwaukee during 1986 was anything but pleasant. Jeffrey Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal was born in May of 1960. He grew up in a relatively normal family although ended up doing the unthinkable. Jeffrey Dahmer kidnapped 17 different men, tortured them and ate their body parts. During a time of social injustice Jeffrey Dahmer's gruesome crimes greatly affected the Milwaukee known today.

Ways that are so appalling the human brain can't even imagine them. Jeffrey Dahmer would lure out his victims at gay bars, malls and bus stops. He would coax these men into coming home with him by promising them sex or money. (World of Criminal Justice...) Once they were home,¨Dahmer would drug, then strangle his victims; molest the corpses; and finally eat or preserve parts of his victims, disposing of the the remains with quicklime in an enormous plastic bucket¨ (St. James Encyclopedia…). The gut-wrenching way Jeffrey Dahmer decided to kill his victims is what allows people to widely remember him today. Dahmer being so invested into the cannibalism aspect also shocked the world because that wasn't a thing many people had heard of. Although Dahmer managed to carry out 17 of these nauseating crimes they quickly came to an end. Finally on July 22, 1991 two Milwaukee police officers spotted a man running down the street with handcuffs dangling from his wrist. The officers stopped him, in a reckless manner the man explained that he escaped a ¨weird dude¨ who threatened to use a butcher knife and cut his heart out.(World of Criminal Justice…) Jeffrey Dahmer's arrest was relieving for the public although his court case was a separate
