Humanity is something that nags at the back of most people’s mind when they are presented with the chance to do something morally wrong. For example a lot of murders happen accidentally and the thing that causes people to end up upset with themselves is the humanity inside them. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen as well as the other characters are faced with the issue of whether or not to keep their humanity during a very inhumane situation called the Hunger Games. The gamemakers put valuable items the tributes needed in the center of the arena once it got down to the final few of them. This is suppose to be a way to trigger a giant bloodbath in which they all attempt to kill each other. Peeta who is Katniss’s fellow tribute as well as her fake lover and dear friend is severely injured and in need of antibiotic. Due to this she argues with Peeta about risking her life to go get the medicine for his leg (Collins 297 THG). She is sent a medicine by Haymitch to knock Peeta out so she can go get the antibiotic. With this in mind it shows that Katniss is not thinking of herself but Peeta instead which only a humane person would do in this situation anyone else would have left him to die. Brian Underwood can attest to this as he does in his electronic journal saying “When Peeta is deathly ill from an injury received amidst the Hunger Games, she literally risks her life to obtain medicine for him by walking into what she knows to be a trap set by the Gamemakers.”
